How activated carbon works

Activated carbon is a tried-and-tested method for odor control. It acts as an absorbent, so it traps unwanted odors inside the carbon and leaves the air around it smelling fresh and clean. 

Here’s how it works: The activation process creates a network of micro and macro pores on the carbon. The carbon absorbs odors by pulling the molecules into those openings, and then adsorbs them by holding those molecules on its surface. 

Along with removing unpleasant and potentially harmful odors, activated carbon also gets rid of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can affect air quality.

Our air scrubbers are an effective landfill odor control solution. They work to quickly reduce pungent odors, and can be used on gas collection systems as well as mobile gas containment systems. Marine vehicles, boats, RVs, campgrounds and trailer parks. Wastewater. Wastewater odors at a treatment plant can not only lead to complaints from the community, but also affect the health, wellbeing and job satisfaction of your workers. Luckily, controlling those odors is simple. For two decades, Industrial Odor Control has been the go-to provider for septic and sewer odor solutions. Many lift and pump stations have an odor control problem because they have standard plumbing vent stacks, which allow waste water to follow through the drain pipes — but often bring sewer gas down to ground level. The issue can get worse if your site is located on a hilly area. We rely on activated carbon vent filters to remove offensive odors. These wastewater odor control filters eliminate hydrogen sulphide from the air as it’s released from various airstreams and vents, as well as diamines, ammonia and other organic sulfides so your workers and neighbors can breathe easily. Cannabis cultivation. Thanks to new regulations, many municipalities across the US have given licenses to commercial cannabis operations to grow their product. But most of these licences have one condition: you must have a cannabis odor control solution in place to protect the surrounding community as well as employees. Cannabis produces strong odors, ranging from floral to fruity and even sewer-like. The smells are most pungent when the flower is budding, and can sometimes be detected from more than a mile away. To limit these odors and avoid a fine, invest in our recirculating molecular air scrubbers. They’re the perfect cannabis odor control solution when external ventilation isn’t practical or possible.

Hospitals and healthcare clinics. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals needed more negative pressure rooms and supplies had run dangerously low.
