Chloratreat media is used to remove chlorine or chlorine dioxide from air streams. These air streams are typically generated in bleach plants, pulp and paper facilities, chemical manufacturers, fresh water and waste water treatment plants.
Chlorine is removed through a chemisorption reaction with sodium thiosulfate on the Chloratreat. General Carbon Impregnates a zeolite substrate with no less than 2.40 pounds of sodium thiosulfate per cubic foot of media.

The reaction of sodium thiosulfate with chlorine dioxide is as follows:
Na2S2O3 + 2ClO2+ H2O = 2NaHSO4 + 2HCl
